Things that I want to put up here regularly...

This is a dangerous post, putting down a list of things I think would be good to blog regularly - because I'm just so hopeless at getting any sort of structure to these updates. But here goes.

- Book reviews - mainly a chapter a week on books that take my fancy...generally those of an edgy post-modern flavour (or just wildly popular) so people can chew the fat, to critique and have their say.
Ideas for these:
The Shack - W.Young
A New Kind of Christian - B.McLaren
Spiritual Leadership - O.Sanders
Exiles - M.Frost
The Purpose Driven Life - R.Warren

- Blogging the weekly RCL - revised common lectionary - and seeing the words of scripture studied by many in the world hopefully come alive

- MX daily - try to find the weirdest, wackiest things from the mx (Melbourne free newspaper)

- Mens issues, things pertaining particularly to bringing up men as whole individuals without getting messed up with poor priorities, no motivation, addictions - basically encouraging men to get out there and make their lives extraordinary. Women are so much better with their "you go girl" encouragement in its many forms.

- Faith experiences, courses and discussion of the best ways these can be created. And their target audiences (seekers, the already converted, non believers)

- Faith practices - including but not limited to lectio divina, prayer walking, meditation, serving, local/urban/global mission involvement

- Great videos which are either extremely funny (to me) or contain a really pertinent topic which is encapsulated better than I can articulate

The 4 Faith Experiences - Engage Courses

Very simply the 4 faith experiences are:

  • Plunge = dive into Christianity, into the Trinity and the love of the Church, start to renew your mind etc (focus: John-Acts-Romans)
  • Refine = look seriously into your life, turn towards God-honouring, faith through actions (1 John-James-1Peter)
  • Ignite = look into gifting, callings, seek God and seek the wise counsel of friends to grow in obedience (Galatians-Ephesians-Philippians-Colossians)
  • Explode = invest a month of life - wages and time - to impact your community with the love of Christ (Mark)

Basically they are faith experience based courses which you can do as a small group (4-10) for 30 days as you go about your daily life.   Its aim is to build fundamental principles, challenge people with simple tests of faith, and open their eyes to new experiences (or ancient ones they have never thought of before).

The terms “Faith Experiences” mean that there are challenges to your faith (non-destructive) and experiences means there is action, you don't just sit around reading scriptures or singing kumbaya, but you actually engage with your God, your community and your world.

Welcome to the Wide World of Web

Hey readers

It's time to get on with this blog business and get some thoughts out there.

Engage Your Faith will be about just that:

ENGAGE with a God who loves and cares for you, in ways that interest you mentally, spiritually, socially and physically
YOUR life is yours, just as each experience you go through cannot be anyone else's
FAITH is knowing that even though you have doubts it's the journey that matters

I'm looking at creating 4 faith experiences, aimed at helping a person who knows nothing about Christ to discover the person God sent into the world.

More on that will come later...
